climate change- who cares?

In dubai newspaper reports today we read that climate change is happening, sea levels are rising and there may even be a movement of people as a result. Today sees the official oppening of the doomsday vault in Norway where millions of seeds will be stored for anything up to 10,000 yrs. These seeds are to be stored in case of food stuffs running out as a result of wars or the effects of global warming and climate change. This is a huge step towards saving the worlds essential food sources. And is a fairly big hint that climate change is happening faster than we had anticipated.
The question I'm asking, as we receive a lot of calls and feedback from listeners of the radio show, is who really cares about climate change? There are many differeing points of view, there are many sceptics. And I hear from a lot of people in the UAE that our generation will not be affected by it, we can't see it, we can't feel it so why should we care about it. Let's leave it to future generations to deal with.

so what are you going tell Madeline when she grows up and ask you why you contributed to the mess our world is in by saying we need to leave it for future generations to deal with - shame on you

Thanks for your comment. So glad you did. I'm writing this blog to get a reaction. It's not me that is saying leave it to our future generations but just some of the people who call in to the radio show that I host when trying to continue to raise awareness of the very serious prospect of climate change. I really appreciate your feedback.

Fare enough. Great to know you are on board the fight climate change ‘wagon’.

I went to the climate change seminar at the British Uni of Dubai on Tue evening conducted by Professor Geoffrey Boulton of the University of Edinburgh and he confirmed Richard Branson’s warning that the Palm Trilogy and The World would be underwater in 50 years if governments did not address the issue of climate change…

He also said that if worldwide, household and businesses switch to more energy efficient devises, appliances and gadgets, we would combat global warming…unfortunately not many of these products are available in the UAE yet. However, this confirms that every effort, no matter how small, CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!!
